Life Drawing(Traditional Drawing)
(Introduction)
This was a long-term project for me and I attempted a wide range of materials, such as coloured pencil, acrylic, oil pastel, watercolour and charcoal to observe and record the appearance of naked models.
I intended to use these materials to explore my relationship with them and me on a deeper level, even in terms of drawing techniques, such as lines and marks: the slow line, the fast line, the ‘emotional’ mark and ‘cool’ mark.
Furthermore, I did't intend to document these models very realistically, but rather depict them through the visual language of what I saw and felt in the environment at the time.
When I utilised coloured pencils, oil pastels, and pencils, I paid more attention to the feelings of the moment and invoked an emotional way of painting: combining messy lines with rich colours.
Nevertheless, as I tried to make a change, which reduced the colours and made the lines become cleaner, I found an audience may be focused on the characters and not on other elements.
From my perspective, the calm and emotional drawing method contributed more possibilities and methods, and I was able to know which means would be more suitable through figuring out the importance of focal points and contrast.
